Derek Wasiak spent 17 years in law enforcement and has demonstrated a deep
appreciation for sports since youth, having participated in athletics through
college.  His sustained involvement as a post graduate developed into a
secondary career in both officiating and coaching. For the past 20 years, Derek
has assisted the NHL by working as an on-ice official at numerous Rangers and
Islanders training camps, in addition to several exhibition games at both the NHL
and AHL levels. He has cultivated young athletes through coaching at the high
school level in both ice hockey and football for the past 12 years. Through the early
2000s, Derek was able to indulge his passion for sports history and statistical
analysis as a steady caller to the overnight show on WFAN, where he came to be
known for offering colorful sports commentary.
