Review:
I know I’ve been a bit cranky about rookie-laden products lately, and Topps Draft Picks and Stars is
the reason why.
THIS is the product that all of the Rookie cards should be in, yet you get as many here as you do in
a box like Topps Treasury. Personally, I think this is a box that should be loaded with all of the first
year guys, not just a handful. I’m talking one or two per pack (heck, even the name of the product
indicates it should be this way – it says it right there…Draft Picks). Now, let’s be honest for a
second. It isn’t like I had a terrible box. I got a nice array of rookies, plus some really nice parallels,
relics and a low-numbered auto. Dare I say I beat the odds. But for a product like this, I want to see it
top-heavy with rookies. I want my Derrick Rose, my Michael Beasley, my O.J. Mayo, etc. The bitter pill I’m
forced to swallow a Kyle Weaver auto would be eased a lot more in that case.
OK. There are positives here. I touched on them earlier – nice relics, great parallels and, if you are luckier
than me, a great autograph list. Basketball fans SHOULD go get this.
Just prepare to get more than one box to make sure you get the rookies you really want..........
